Yes, there is an age limit for Pakistani applicants. Australia Awards Pakistan's country profile for the last round says you must be not more than 45 years old at the time you submit your application. There is no lower age limit as such, but you also need five years of relevant work experience in Pakistan and 16 years of education, so in practice most applicants are in their late twenties or older.
We read these rules on 23 October 2026 in the Australia Awards Pakistan Country Profile for Intake 2027, the official document for the round that closed on 30 April 2026. The next round's profile is not out yet, so check it for changes when it is published.
What the official rules say
The Pakistan country profile lists these eligibility conditions for master's study starting in 2027:
| Rule | What the profile says |
|---|---|
| Age | Not more than 45 at the time of submitting the application |
| Work experience | Five years of relevant work experience in Pakistan |
| Education | 16 years completed |
| Citizenship and residence | A Pakistani citizen living in Pakistan and applying from Pakistan; not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and not applying for permanent residence in Australia |
| Return home | Return to Pakistan for at least two years after the course |
| English | IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 84 with at least 21 in each section, or PTE Academic 58 with no skill below 50 |
| Level | Master's |
The age is measured on the day you submit, not on the day the course starts. So if you turn 46 between February and April, submit before your birthday. The profile also says you cannot study in Australia under the programme if you have already completed an equivalent qualification, so someone who already holds a master's should read that rule carefully against the course they choose.
Is there a minimum age?
The profile sets no minimum age. The real lower limit comes from the other rules: 16 years of education plus five years of relevant work experience in Pakistan. A fresh graduate cannot meet them. If you are younger and have no work experience yet, schemes such as Erasmus Mundus accept final-year students; our article on the Erasmus Mundus age limit explains its rules.
Questions people also ask
What does the scholarship pay?
The country profile lists full tuition, a return airfare, a one-off establishment allowance, a contribution to living expenses, Overseas Student Health Cover, an introductory academic programme and supplementary academic support. Research master's students, and coursework students with compulsory fieldwork, also get a fieldwork allowance.
Which subjects can I study?
The Intake 2027 profile names five priority areas for Pakistan: climate change; empowerment of women and girls; agriculture and water security; infrastructure; and inclusive economic development. It says the two governments review these from time to time, and it encourages applications from women, people with disability and other marginalised groups.
What documents are needed?
The profile lists a completed Development Impact and Linkages Plan, your bachelor's and master's degrees and transcripts, a detailed CV, an English test result valid on 1 January of the study year, academic referee reports (one for a coursework master's, two for a research master's), an employment referee report, and a no objection certificate if you work in the public sector. Our NOC request letter and email for requesting a recommendation help you ask for these early.
Is there an exception to the English score?
Yes. The profile says applicants with disability may apply with IELTS 6.0 overall and no band below 5.0, but must reach the full score in a test arranged by Australia Awards Pakistan before starting. Our IELTS, TOEFL and Duolingo guide covers test centres in Pakistan.
How are applicants selected?
According to the profile, applications are checked for eligibility and then shortlisted, and only shortlisted applicants are contacted. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed on academic competence, the development outcomes they could bring to Pakistan, and leadership, including relevant work experience.
Can an agent apply for me, or help write it?
No. The Intake 2027 how-to-apply page says applications are accepted only through the OASIS portal, that using third parties to submit or "improve" an application leads to disqualification, and that AI may be used only for basic tasks like spelling and grammar, not to write or paraphrase any part. Never pay anyone who offers to apply for you or to improve your chances.
When can I apply next?
Australia Awards Pakistan's website says applications are closed and will reopen in early 2027. The South Asia and Mongolia scholarships page says applications generally open on 1 February and close on 30 April each year; for the last round the times were 09:00 AEDT on 1 February 2026 and 14:00 AEST on 30 April 2026. The next round would normally be for study starting in 2028, but wait for the new country profile, as the rules (including the age limit) are set for each round.
We keep the round's dates on our Australia Awards Pakistan page and in our deadline calendar.
Your next step
If you are 45 or under and have five years of relevant work in Pakistan, use the months before February to book an English test, ask your employer about an NOC, and shortlist courses that match one of the five priority areas. Our Study in Australia guide explains costs and universities. When the new round opens, read the new country profile first, because it is the final word on the age limit and every other rule.
