Can a Pakistani student get a DAAD scholarship for a bachelor's in Germany? What DAAD's Pakistan list funds, the one short course for undergraduates, and other options.

No. DAAD does not offer Pakistani students a scholarship for a full bachelor's degree in Germany. Every programme on DAAD's official list for Pakistan is for master's, PhD or postdoctoral study, and DAAD says its scholarships are "aimed primarily at graduates, doctoral students and postdocs".

What DAAD does offer undergraduates is short: a grant for a summer language course in Germany, open to students who have finished at least two years of their degree. Below is what we found on DAAD's own pages on 3 November 2026, and where a bachelor's student can look instead.

What DAAD's Pakistan list funds

DAAD Pakistan's list of scholarship programmes has three groups:

Level Examples on the list Usual deadline
Master's EPOS development-related courses, Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (public policy), study scholarships for architecture, fine art, design, film, music and performing arts Varies; EPOS by course, Helmut-Schmidt generally end of July
PhD Doctoral Programmes in Germany, bi-nationally supervised doctorates, research grants, scholarships for medical doctors Generally end of August
Postdoc Research grants, re-invitation programme, DLR-DAAD fellowships Generally end of August, or see the announcement

None of them funds a bachelor's degree, and the page does not mention undergraduate scholarships at all. Every master's scheme on the list is for graduates: the study scholarships are titled "for Foreign Graduates", and EPOS asks for a completed bachelor's and work experience. Our Germany scholarships guide covers these in full, and the catalogue pages for DAAD EPOS and DAAD doctoral grants give the current details.

DAAD's main scholarships page says the same in general terms: its scholarships are mainly for graduates, doctoral students and postdocs, with example rates of €992 a month for students and €1,300 for doctoral candidates.

Is there any DAAD scholarship for bachelor's students?

One. DAAD's University Summer Courses grant pays for a German language and culture course at a German university in the summer. DAAD's page says:

  • Bachelor's and master's students in all subjects may apply.
  • Undergraduates must have completed at least two academic years by the time the course starts.
  • You must be enrolled at a university in one of the programme's eligible countries. The page does not list the countries.
  • It pays a one-time €1,134 (€1,309 for students from Least Developed Countries), plus a travel allowance for most countries.
  • Applications open on 15 September and close on 1 December each year, at 23:59 Central European Time.

This grant is not on DAAD Pakistan's list, and the page we read does not say whether students at Pakistani universities are eligible. Before you spend time on an application, look up the programme in the DAAD scholarship database with Pakistan as your country of origin. If it does not appear for Pakistan, ask DAAD Pakistan before applying. Either way, it is a short course, not a degree.

Is DAAD scholarship available for a bachelor's degree from abroad?

Not for a full degree, as above. There is also a practical step before any funding question. Our Study in Germany guide explains that a Pakistani FSc or HSSC certificate alone does not normally give direct entry to a German bachelor's. The usual routes are one or two years of study at an HEC-recognised university first, or a one-year preparatory course (Studienkolleg). Most bachelor's degrees in Germany are also taught in German.

The good news for families is cost. In most German states, public universities charge no tuition for a bachelor's, so the main bill is living costs and the blocked account the visa asks for. See our Germany cost of living in PKR guide.

What else can a bachelor's student in Germany apply for?

  • Deutschlandstipendium. Heidelberg University describes it as €300 a month for high achievers of all nationalities, not linked to income, usually for two semesters at a time and paid half by the federal government and half by private donors. You apply through your German university once you are enrolled. It covers only part of your living costs.
  • University scholarships. Some German universities have their own awards for international students. Check your university's international office page after you are admitted.
  • Bachelor's elsewhere. If you need full funding for a first degree, look at schemes that fund undergraduates, such as Türkiye Scholarships, Stipendium Hungaricum or the Chinese Government Scholarship. Our undergraduate study abroad guide and our article on scholarships after FSc Pre-Engineering list them with their rules.

When can you apply for DAAD, then?

Plan for DAAD after your bachelor's. Its master's schemes on the Pakistan list are for graduates, and EPOS also asks for at least two years of relevant work experience. If DAAD is your goal, these years are the time to build your grades, your English or German, and your work experience. Check the DAAD scholarship age limit too, since some programmes limit how old your last degree can be.

Your next step

If you are in your third or fourth year of a bachelor's, search the DAAD database for the summer course with Pakistan as your country, and note the 1 December deadline. If you are still in FSc, start with our scholarship finder for undergraduate options. DAAD changes its programmes each year, so always confirm on DAAD's official pages before you apply. DAAD scholarships are free to apply for; never pay anyone who offers to get you one.
