Most BBA, BS Business, BS Accounting and Finance and BS Economics graduates in Pakistan start in banking, audit and accounting firms, FMCG and telecom sales and marketing, consulting, the State Bank and other regulators, development projects and family businesses. When they study further, the common directions are an MBA, a specialised master's in finance, economics or management, a public policy or development degree, or an MPhil and later a PhD in economics. The good news for scholarships is that several fully funded schemes accept these degrees directly, especially for economics, public policy and development, so an MBA is not the only funded route.
This guide lists the programmes that fit, what they pay and the next deadline, as checked on the official pages on 19 October 2026.
MBA or a specialised master's?
An MBA is a general management degree for people with several years of work experience, and most MBA funding is partial. If an MBA is your goal, read our separate guide to MBA scholarships for Pakistani students, which covers Chevening's MBA fee cap, Fulbright, Oxford and the business school awards.
A specialised master's (MSc Economics, Finance, Development Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Economics) is usually open to fresh graduates or people with one or two years of work, and it is where most of the fully funded options sit. Many of these programmes check your transcript for a minimum number of economics, maths or statistics courses, so business graduates should look at the entry rules closely before applying.
Funded programmes that fit business and economics graduates
You can see every award we track for business, economics and policy on the society and economics subject page.
UK: Commonwealth and Chevening
Commonwealth Master's Scholarships pay full tuition, an approved return airfare, a stipend of £1,712 a month (£2,000 in London) and a study travel grant. Pakistanis apply through HEC as the nominating body and also on the CSC portal. The CSC portal closes at 16:00 BST on 20 October 2026, so if you have not started, check whether you can still finish both parts in time. Awards are tied to six CSC development themes, and one of them is "promoting innovation and entrepreneurship", which gives business and economics graduates a clear angle. You need at least a 2:1 equivalent and must show you could not afford UK study otherwise.
Chevening funds a one-year UK master's in any subject. You need at least 2,800 hours (about two years) of work experience after your degree, must apply to three eligible courses, hold one unconditional offer by the summer deadline and return to Pakistan for at least two years. The 2027-28 round has closed. If you are a recent BBA graduate, use the next year to build work experience and pick courses such as MSc Finance, Development Economics or Public Policy.
USA: Fulbright
Fulbright through USEFP is open to every field except clinical medicine, and "trade and economics" is one of its listed priority areas. A four-year BBA or BS meets the 16-year rule. For an MBA or a public policy master's you need two years of relevant work experience; for an MS in economics or finance, USEFP encourages recent graduates to apply. Everyone takes the GRE with at least 145 in each section. The last deadline was 1 April 2026 and the next round has not been announced.
Germany: DAAD Helmut-Schmidt and EPOS
The Helmut-Schmidt Programme (Master's Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance) is the DAAD's route into public policy, governance and development master's courses in Germany. DAAD's scholarship database describes it as being for graduates in fields such as political science, law, economics and administration, and DAAD Pakistan lists it among its programmes for Pakistan with a deadline "generally at the end of July". You apply to the university course, not to DAAD. Read the current call on the DAAD site for the stipend, the participating courses and the full rules, as we could not open this year's call document.
EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses) funds professionals from developing countries on selected courses. The DAAD rules ask for at least two years of relevant work after your bachelor's, results in the upper third of your class and a degree that is normally no more than six years old. Master's scholars receive €992 a month plus insurance and a travel allowance. Courses on the 2027-28 list that suit business and economics graduates include Development Economics at Göttingen, Agricultural Economics at Hohenheim, Development Management at Ruhr University Bochum and the Small Enterprise Promotion and Training MBA at Leipzig. Each course sets its own deadline, so check the course website.
Europe: Erasmus Mundus in economics, policy and management
Erasmus Mundus joint master's scholarships cover tuition and pay a monthly allowance, usually €1,400, while you study in two or more countries. You can only hold one in your life. See our Erasmus Mundus guide for how they work.
- Mundus MAPP is a two-year public policy master's across CEU Vienna, IBEI Barcelona, ISS Rotterdam and York. Business, economics and social science degrees qualify; engineering and natural science degrees do not. The financial aid deadline for the 2027-29 cohort is 1 December 2026.
- EPOG-JM is a two-year economic policy master's. If your degree is not in economics, your transcript needs at least 24 ECTS in economics and 6 ECTS in statistics or econometrics, and the English requirement is C1 (IELTS 7.0). The deadline is 27 January 2027.
- EMLE is a one-year law and economics master's across several European universities. The deadline for non-European applicants is 31 December 2026, and the strongest admitted students are considered for the scholarship automatically.
- GLOCAL suits business and economics graduates interested in international business and economic history. You need an offer from the University of Glasgow before the 14 January 2027 scholarship deadline.
- M3EP suits economics graduates who want to work on climate and energy policy. Non-listed degrees need 60 ECTS in economics or political science. The portal for non-EU applicants opens 15 November and closes 15 January, but the official page does not yet state the year, so confirm before you plan around it.
Australia: Australia Awards
Australia Awards Pakistan funds a master's in Australia for applicants with at least five years of relevant work experience in Pakistan, aged 45 or under. "Inclusive economic development" is one of its priority areas for the 2027 intake. The 2027 round closed on 30 April 2026, and the official site says applications reopen in early 2027.
How to choose and what to prepare
- Fresh graduate (0 to 1 year of work): look at Erasmus Mundus programmes and Fulbright for an MS. Most of the others need work experience.
- Two or more years of work: add Chevening, Commonwealth, DAAD EPOS and Helmut-Schmidt.
- Five or more years: Australia Awards opens up as well.
- Check your transcript: count your economics, maths and statistics credits. Programmes like EPOG-JM and M3EP set minimums, and business degrees in Pakistan vary a lot.
- Documents: HEC-attested degree and transcript, an English test (IELTS or TOEFL), the GRE for Fulbright, and two academic or work references. Convert your CGPA carefully with our grade converter and check basic fit with the eligibility checker.
