If you studied BS or BE Electrical or Electronics Engineering in Pakistan, your best funded options abroad are specialist master's degrees in power systems, renewable energy, telecommunications and embedded electronics. Many of them are Erasmus Mundus joint master's in Europe, which cover fees and pay a monthly allowance. Research-minded graduates can also go straight to a funded MS or PhD at places such as KAUST, or apply for the HEC Overseas Scholarships.
Below are the programmes that fit, with deadlines we checked on their official pages on 19 October 2026. Several close in the first week of January, so the time to start is now.
What electrical engineering graduates in Pakistan usually do next
Electrical and electronics graduates tend to split into a few broad tracks:
- Power: generation, transmission and distribution companies, grid operators, and the growing solar and storage sector.
- Telecom and networks: mobile operators, equipment vendors and network consultancies.
- Electronics and embedded systems: product design, firmware, automation and control in industry.
- Software and data: many electrical graduates move into machine learning, signal processing and software roles.
- Further study: an MS in Pakistan, or a funded master's or PhD abroad.
The common master's directions follow the same lines: electrical power and smart grids, renewable energy and control, electric vehicles and power electronics, communications and signal processing, microwave and RF engineering, photonics, and micro and nanoelectronics, which is the closest taught route into semiconductors.
Funded programmes that fit electrical engineers
Erasmus Mundus joint master's let you study in two or more European countries. You apply directly to each programme's consortium, not through HEC. See them all on our Erasmus Mundus page or the engineering subject page.

A note on money: an Erasmus Mundus scholarship normally covers the programme's participation costs and pays a monthly allowance. Programme pages we checked today put that allowance at EUR 1,400 a month, but always read the funding section of the programme you choose, because some consortia also offer fee-waiver-only places.
We could not open the HEC page on 19 October 2026, so we have not quoted HEC dates or rules here. Our HEC Overseas page shows what we last checked, and HEC's site is the final word.
Which programme suits which interest
Power systems and renewable energy
- EMJM STEPS has two suggested tracks, Sustainable Transportation and Electrical Power Systems, and lets students shape their own path from their background. The course starts in September 2027.
- DENSYS covers smart grids, storage and decentralised energy. You spend the first year at Université de Lorraine in Nancy, then a semester at KTH, Politecnico di Torino or UPC.
- EU-CORE is about automatic control for wind, solar and other renewable systems, which suits graduates who liked control engineering.
- E-PiCo+ is for power electronics, electric machines and electric vehicle drives.
Telecom, signal processing and RF
- CoDaS combines communications engineering with data science and machine learning. Its deadline is 5 January 2027, and the site says late applications are not considered.
- EMIMEP focuses on microwave electronics, RF and photonics, with a first year in Limoges and Brescia.
Embedded systems, nanoelectronics and semiconductors
- EMINENT brings together nanotechnology, sensors and embedded AI for smart devices.
- GreeNano is about nanomaterials for clean energy and digital technology, a good fit if your final year project touched devices or materials.
We did not find a funded Erasmus Mundus master's dedicated only to chip design. For semiconductors, the usual route is a research MS or PhD in a device or circuits lab. Our guide to contacting professors for a funded PhD and this sample email to a potential supervisor show you how to start.
Research degrees
KAUST offers MS and PhD places with full support. Its admissions page says over 90% of admitted students receive full tuition support, along with a stipend, housing and medical cover. The Fall 2027 deadline is 3 January 2027, and KAUST says its dates are tentative.
Entry rules to check before you apply
We have not listed entry rules for every programme, because each consortium sets its own and changes them between cycles. Before you apply, check on the programme's own page:
- Accepted degrees. Most of these courses name electrical or electronics engineering, but some also want specific subjects such as control or electromagnetics.
- English. Many European programmes ask for IELTS, TOEFL or another recognised test, and some do not accept a medium of instruction letter. Our IELTS, TOEFL and Duolingo guide helps you choose.
- Documents. Plan for HEC attestation of your degree and transcripts. Our HEC attestation guide explains the steps.
Careers and pay
We have not found official salary data for electrical engineers in Pakistan and abroad that we can stand behind, so we are not quoting numbers. In broad terms, a specialist master's in power, renewables or RF opens design, grid and research roles that a general degree alone may not. Rights to work after study depend on each country's visa rules, so check the government's official site for your case.
Your next step
Run Find my matches to see which of these programmes fit your CGPA, English test and experience, or test one programme with the eligibility tool. Pick two or three, note the January deadlines, and ask your referees now. Always confirm the deadline and scholarship terms on the official programme page before you apply, since consortia can change them between cycles. No programme guarantees a scholarship, but a focused, early application gives you a fair chance.
