If you hold a BSc or BE in Chemical Engineering from a Pakistani university, the strongest funded routes abroad are specialist master's degrees in process engineering, membranes, nanomaterials and energy materials, most of them Erasmus Mundus joint master's in Europe that pay fees and EUR 1,400 a month. For a PhD, look at fully funded places such as KAUST in Saudi Arabia or a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, which need a supervisor or a strong research record.
We checked each programme below on its official site on 20 October 2026. Dates change, so confirm on the programme's own page before you apply.
What chemical engineering graduates in Pakistan usually do next
Most graduates start on one of these paths:
- Process and plant work in fertiliser, refining, petrochemicals, cement, sugar, textiles, food and pharmaceuticals, often starting as a trainee or shift engineer.
- Design, safety and consultancy, preparing process designs, safety studies and environmental reports.
- Public sector and regulators, through competitive recruitment.
- Further study, either an MS in Pakistan or a funded master's abroad, usually in the area of their final-year project.
The common master's directions are process and separation engineering, membranes and water treatment, catalysis, polymers and materials, energy storage and hydrogen, and environmental engineering. Two or three years in a plant make an application stronger, especially when you can describe a real process problem you worked on.
Engineering Technology graduates, note this. MULTIPHASE, one of the programmes below, says it does not accept Bachelor of Technology degrees. If you hold a BS Engineering Technology rather than a BSc or BE, email each programme before applying and ask whether your degree is accepted.
Funded master's programmes that name chemical engineering
All of these are Erasmus Mundus joint master's: you study in two or more European countries and apply directly to the consortium, not through HEC. The scholarship (where offered) covers participation costs and pays EUR 1,400 a month. See every programme on our Erasmus Mundus page.
| Programme | Where | Funding | Next deadline | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| MESD: Membrane Engineering for Sustainable Development | Montpellier, Toulouse, UCT Prague, Nova Lisbon, Zaragoza, Twente, Lund | Erasmus Mundus scholarships in past intakes | No 2027 intake announced yet (the 2026-2028 call closed 28 January 2026); check official page | mesd.edu.umontpellier.fr |
Entry rules worth knowing
- MULTIPHASE accepts a bachelor's in chemical engineering (and petrochemical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering, physics and related subjects). It asks for a CGPA of at least 75% of your scale's maximum, so 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and English of IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88 or PTE Academic 65.
- CNE lists chemistry and chemical engineering among accepted science degrees and asks for a good command of English; its application page gives the minimum IELTS and TOEFL scores.
- i-MESC lists chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science and process engineering. You need a bachelor's of at least 180 ECTS, and final-year students can apply if they graduate by 1 June.
- MESD names chemical engineering and bio-chemical engineering, and asks for English at upper B2, for example IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90.
Our grade converter helps you show your CGPA or percentage on the scale a programme asks for. A strong motivation letter matters in every one of these; our master's motivation letter sample shows the structure.
Funded PhD routes for chemical engineers
- KAUST, Saudi Arabia. KAUST runs MS and PhD programmes in chemical engineering. Its admissions site says over 90% of admitted students receive full tuition support, a monthly stipend, housing, medical cover and relocation help. The Fall 2027 Round 2 deadline is 3 January 2027 for MS, MS/PhD and PhD applicants (admission timelines).
- Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships. CHF 2,450 a month for a PhD in Switzerland, for master's holders who have a Swiss supervisor. The Pakistan deadline for 2027-28 is 31 October 2026; our Swiss scholarship guide explains the rules.
- HEC Overseas Scholarships and the HEC Indigenous PhD Fellowship if you want HEC funding. Check HEC's current calls for which disciplines are included.
For any PhD, the first real step is finding a supervisor. Our email to a potential supervisor and the guide to contacting professors for a funded PhD explain how. You will also need two or three strong references, and our request for recommendation email helps you ask.
Schemes open to any field
Many chemical engineers move into energy policy, environmental management or business. These schemes accept any field, so they are worth a look too:
- Chevening for a one-year master's in the UK, for applicants with work experience.
- Commonwealth Master's Scholarships for the UK, through HEC (the 2027 round closed on 20 October 2026, so plan for the next one).
- Fulbright for a master's or PhD in the USA, through USEFP.
- Stipendium Hungaricum for a master's or PhD in Hungary, nominated by HEC.
Check each scheme's page for the current round's dates.
