Global UGRAD was a U.S. government-funded programme that sent Pakistani undergraduates to an American college or university for one semester of non-degree study, with a focus on leadership and community service. Current status

Ended

Ended. On 8 April 2025 USEFP announced that the U.S. Department of State would no longer offer Global UGRAD-Pakistan, after 15 years (2010–2025); the 54 students already in the U.S. finished their semester. As of 2026-10-12 no revival has been announced on usefp.org or in news coverage.

What it covers

  • Was fully funded by the U.S. Department of State
  • Participants received a stipend and programme benefits during their semester (per USEFP's April 2025 statement)
  • One semester of non-degree coursework at a U.S. college or university

Who can apply

  • Was open to students enrolled in undergraduate programmes in Pakistan
  • USEFP no longer publishes the full criteria because the programme has ended

How to apply

  1. 1Applications are not possible. Global UGRAD-Pakistan has ended
  2. 2Look at the other exchange options on this page instead, such as Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility or the JASSO exchange scholarship, which run through your own university's partnerships

Tips from successful applicants

  • Be wary of websites or agents still advertising 'UGRAD 2026/2027' for Pakistan. USEFP itself announced the programme had come to an end
  • Ask your university's international office which European, Japanese or Turkish universities it has exchange agreements with, because most current semester exchanges run through those agreements
  • If you are 18–25, keep an eye on the U.S. Embassy's announcements for SUSI student leader institutes, the closest remaining U.S. option for undergraduates (its status is also uncertain)
