After FSc Pre-Engineering (or ICS), most students go on to a four-year bachelor's in engineering, computer science, software engineering, data science, mathematics, physics or architecture. Several governments fund complete bachelor's degrees for Pakistani students who have 12 years of schooling: Türkiye Burslari, Stipendium Hungaricum and the Chinese Government Scholarship (both nominated by HEC), MEXT in Japan and GKS in Korea. At home, need-based schemes such as the Benazir Undergraduate Scholarship and the HEC Need-Based Scholarship pay tuition at public universities.
This guide is for students and parents planning the next step. Each of these schemes changes its rules every year, so treat the dates below as a planning guide and confirm them on the official page before applying.
What FSc Pre-Engineering and ICS lead to
Your FSc subject group decides which bachelor's programmes you can enter, both in Pakistan and abroad.
- FSc Pre-Engineering (physics, chemistry, maths): all branches of engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, software, mechatronics, aerospace), architecture, BS physics, maths, chemistry and statistics, and computing degrees.
- ICS (physics or statistics, maths, computer science): BS computer science, software engineering, AI, data science, cyber security, information technology, mathematics and statistics. Many engineering programmes also accept ICS with physics, but some ask for chemistry, so check each university's rules.
After a bachelor's, engineering and computing graduates usually go into industry, government organisations or start-ups, or continue to a funded master's and PhD abroad, where engineering and computing are among the best-funded fields. Our engineering and computing pages list those later options.
If you plan to work as an engineer in Pakistan, keep in mind that the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) registers engineers. Before accepting an engineering place abroad, ask PEC how it treats that degree.
Funded bachelor's scholarships abroad that accept FSc
These schemes fund a whole undergraduate degree and accept Pakistani intermediate (12 years) qualifications. Most begin with a language year, which adds a year to the degree.
| Programme | Where | Funding | Next deadline | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Türkiye Burslari | Türkiye | Tuition, monthly stipend, dormitory, health insurance, one return flight, Turkish language year | Official calendar shows a general window of 10 January to 20 February; confirm for 2027 | turkiyeburslari.gov.tr |
| Stipendium Hungaricum via HEC | Hungary | Tuition-free study, monthly stipend, accommodation support, medical insurance | Last HEC call closed 15 January 2026; the 2027 call is not out yet | HEC page |
| Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) via HEC | China | Tuition, accommodation, insurance and stipend at CSC rates | Last HEC call closed 5 January 2026; check for the next call | HEC page |
| MEXT Undergraduate | Japan | Tuition, monthly stipend, airfare, one-year Japanese course | 2027 round closed 5 June 2026; check the embassy page for the next round | Embassy of Japan |
| GKS Undergraduate | South Korea | Tuition, airfare, monthly allowance, Korean language year | 2027 Embassy Track has reached first-round results; watch for the 2028 guidelines | Study in Korea |
| Romanian Government Scholarship | Romania | Tuition exemption, stipend, hostel place where available | Check official page | Study in Romania |
| Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship | Brunei | Tuition, accommodation, allowance, airfare | Check official page | MFA Brunei |
Türkiye Burslari
Türkiye's government scholarship places you at a university and pays for the whole degree plus a Turkish language year. The official criteria page says bachelor's applicants must be under 21 and need at least 70% in their previous studies (90% for health sciences, so this does not affect engineering). Our Türkiye Burslari page has the documents and steps.
Stipendium Hungaricum through HEC
In the 2026-27 call, HEC offered 200 bachelor's seats in all available disciplines, according to its official page. You apply on both the HEC portal and the Stipendium Hungaricum portal, and the application is only complete when both are submitted. Hungarian universities run their own entrance tests or interviews. Read our Stipendium Hungaricum 2027 guide for the full process.
Chinese Government Scholarship through HEC
HEC's 2026-27 call offered 35 bachelor's seats out of 75. HEC's page says the CSCA test is mandatory for everyone applying to undergraduate programmes in China. China has many English-taught engineering programmes, but some are taught in Chinese after a language year, so read each programme's details.
MEXT (Japan) and GKS (Korea)
Both pay for a language year and then a full degree, usually taught in Japanese or Korean. The MEXT guidelines group subjects into social sciences and humanities and three natural science groups, and maths, physics, chemistry and engineering sit in Natural Sciences A, which suits FSc Pre-Engineering. The Embassy of Japan in Islamabad contacts only shortlisted candidates for the next stage. Both schemes have age limits and short application windows, so read the official guidelines early.
University scholarships
Some universities give large scholarships to undergraduates on their own, such as the Lester B. Pearson scholarship at the University of Toronto or need-based aid at MIT. These are very competitive and usually need SAT or A-level-style preparation. See our guide to studying for a bachelor's abroad from Pakistan.
Need-based scholarships in Pakistan
If studying abroad is not right for your family yet, an engineering or computing degree at a Pakistani public university can still be funded. In brief:
- Benazir Undergraduate Scholarship (HEC): tuition and a stipend for students from low-income families at public universities.
- HEC Need-Based Scholarship: applied for through your university's financial aid office after admission.
- Provincial funds: PEEF (Punjab), SEEF (Sindh), KP CMEEF and BEEF (Balochistan), plus CM Punjab Honhaar for merit.
- University aid: NUST need-based aid and the LUMS National Outreach Programme.
All of these are free to apply for. Apply only through the official website or your university's financial aid office, and never pay an agent. Our need-based scholarships list has the full set.
Documents: IBCC attestation and equivalence
Scholarship bodies abroad usually ask for attested copies of your Matric and FSc certificates. The IBCC attests board-issued SSC and HSSC certificates once your board has verified them on the IBCC attestation portal, so start early, because verification takes time. If you did O and A levels instead of FSc, Pakistani universities and HEC calls will usually need an IBCC equivalence certificate; our IBCC equivalence guide explains how. Our document checklist tool helps you track everything.
A simple plan for parents
- Now (Year 2 of FSc): keep marks high, because most schemes look at your intermediate percentage. Start passport and IBCC attestation work.
- November to February: HEC's Hungary and China calls and Türkiye Burslari usually open and close in this period. Watch the official pages.
- Spring to summer: MEXT and GKS rounds for the following year open. Apply to Pakistani universities and need-based schemes in parallel, so your child has a place whatever happens.
No scholarship is certain, so apply to more than one and keep a Pakistani admission as a backup.
